BLOODHOUND SSC – a supersonic racing car designed to reach speeds of 1,000mph (1,600km/h).

Dear BLOODHOUND supporters,

It’s been a long time since our last newsletter, during which time our Team has been busy working on the Car and running public events and education activities around the country.

You will probably have seen our news about planned dates for runs in South Africa. If not, you can read about our plans for 2019 here.

As ever, the BLOODHOUND Team is very grateful for all of your support – but this month I have a special request. We need more volunteers to help the Project, particularly when we have stands at public events. Can you help? If so, please visit our website which has all the information you need about becoming an Ambassador to help at events and/or education visits. Thank you.

Richard Noble, CEO, The BLOODHOUND Project

Car news

These are just some of the highlights of all the work that has been done on the Car over the last few months, bearing in mind that we still face challenges caused by two major suppliers ceasing trading in 2018.

  • The Car was stripped down after the Newquay runs and the Team found that everything has coped well with the extremes of temperature and high loads from the 200mph runs.
  • Various bits of the high-speed bodywork have been test-fitted, including the drag parachute cans and the rear deltas (that cover the lower rear suspension), which were not needed for running at Newquay.
  • The composite body panels have been added to the rear sub assembly, which has involved drilling almost 100 holes by hand with millimetre accuracy to seat "top hats" – inserts that spread the load from each fixing point.

Engineering Director Mark Chapman brings you up to speed with the latest developments in his video progress report.

Andy Green's Diary

One of the best ways to keep up to date with what the BLOODHOUND Team is up to is to read Andy Green’s monthly diary on our website. In his latest diary entry, Andy writes about the challenges of finding funding and replacing suppliers that we have lost, how Swansea University is using BLOODHOUND for research and to teach its students, and how the desert in South Africa is looking.

Video: It's all in the data

Our latest Cisco BHTV video tells the story of how, when and why we’ve been using all the data we’ve gathered, and where we will be using it over the next couple of years. If you want a preview of what we’re planning, or if you’ve ever wondered what a ‘digital twin’ is, then have a look at the video.

Support BLOODHOUND – Special offer!

A vital aspect of running the BLOODHOUND Project is moving our show car to events around the country and, of course, taking the real Car to Newquay in 2017. We can only do this thanks to our Official Logistics Partner, Arthur Spriggs & Sons. Spriggs also provides other valuable support to the Team.

So our online shop highlight this month is a special offer on the great BLOODHOUND Super Hauler from Corgi, with detachable trailer and opening doors (just £12 + p&p for a limited period). It’s the perfect companion to the Corgi BLOODHOUND SSC Newquay model (£20).

Do let us know if you spot the real Spriggs BLOODHOUND lorry out on the road this summer!

You can support us in many other ways too:
